Frances Kiernan

I’m pleased to announce that the three poetry pamphlets I designed and produced for Poet’s House Pamphlets have now been published. It’s been an amazing project working with poet and publisher Jenny Lewis and the poets, Margot Myers, Catherine Faulds and Lynn Thornton. I first met Jenny at Ealing School of Art in 1966 and we’ve been friends ever since, often working together as designer and writer on projects over the years including as artist/writer-in-residence at the Sanskriti Kendra in New Delhi. More recently we held and curated an exhibition at Goldsmiths College London Touching Mesopotamia: text and texture during Jenny’s studies there as a PhD student.

I’m in the midst of trying to update my website which is unfortunate timing for the dates of publication – nevertheless I am proud to be a part of Poet’s House Pamphlets and couldn’t resist shouting about it!

London based artist and printmaker Frances Kiernan trained as a typographer and designer at Ealing School of Art (1965-68) and worked for many years as a designer/art director and creative director before gaining her MA in Fine Art from Wimbledon School of Art. Language, landscape and memory inform her fine art work and continue to be a critical area of her research. Her work is held in collections including V&A Museum, Kensington and Kew Palaces and the Sanskriti Foundation in New Delhi. Frances is a member of Printmakers Council, Richmond Printmakers and a studio member at Kew Art Studio.

Between the Lines – one of a series of etchings exploring the exhibition’s themes in abstract form to suggest ideas around the code breaking of writing systems such as cuneiform. The exhibition, Touching Mesopotamia : text and texture, centred around Jenny Lewis’s MPhil/ PhD work at Goldsmiths and her book Gilgamesh Retold.
